Queen B’s Decree: I read the Felserpent Chronicles all soon after the other, so here are some mini-reviews of each book. Tiny overview of the series—Kyra (an Astral with gold blood) and Sebastian (a Daeval with silver blood) are on differing sides of the world. Their realms are so antagonistic to each other that anyone with silver blood sets off an alarm if they enter Kyra’s realm. And long story short, that’s how Kyra and Sebastian meet and become unhappy allies.
Reign Returned: The world building is done well and I never felt confused or overwhelmed with information. Instead, I was able to focus on the characters (my favorite!). Reign Returned was such a great example of enemies to lovers. Sebastion is so suspicious of anything Kyra does. And Kyra is a healer, her instinct is to help everyone, so she just doesn’t get why Sebastian won’t work together with her easily. I really enjoyed seeing both of them start to grow feelings, especially once they realize secrets about their past life! Also Batty? Best character ever.
Blood Divided: We discover more and more about the history of their realms, while Sebastian and Kyra grow closer and closer. More side characters are introduced but they all felt integral to the story; I never felt like the story was overrun with too many people, nor was it difficult to keep up with the plot. But as always, a character-based story is my favorite and Sebastian and Kyra together was hard to resist.
Realm United: I KNEW we’d have a lot going on in Realm United, and I was not disappointed. So much happens—the bad guy really is a TERRIBLE bad guy—and the whole time I was on the edge, hoping he’d get his comeuppances. There isn’t any real spice in this series (but frankly, it didn’t need it, the emotions were enough!) but Sebastian and Kyra continue to grow closer and trust and support the other in such a heartwarming way. The ending did feel like it flew by, but dang, did it make me cry.
Overall, The Felserpent Chronicles was a great fantasy series and I’d happily read more from this author. The reincarnation trope was done SO WELL and I can’t believe how much I enjoyed myself.
