Queen B’s Decree: I’ve always loved The Phantom of the Opera so I impulsively snatched up this ARC when I saw it offered on Threads. It’s a loose retelling, but I definitely could see the influences.
One thing I enjoyed that every character was morally grey; there was no clear “good guy, bad guy.” I’m not a huge love triangle fan, but it didn’t feel truly like a triangle; more like Krissy is the one calling the shots.
The pacing was a bit off, and I mostly lost interest by the halfway mark. It felt like nothing happened…then BOOM a big rush of excitement…then nothing happened again.
Additionally, there were quite a few grammar and editing errors (which hopefully have been fixed from the ARC copy) which didn’t affect my thoughts of the book, but did take me out of the story occasionally.
A DNF from me, but might be a winner for someone else!
