Read. Reign. Repeat.

One Shot by A.C. Wonderland

Queen B’s Decree: One Shot does not start lightly; you are immediately hit in the gut with overwhelming grief and sorrow. The first few chapters are heartbreaking; the love Laur has for her brother Nick nearly leaps off the page.

Laur is a challenging character. She’s dealing with the grief of losing her brother (throw in some survivor’s guilt there too) and struggling with her growing feelings for the new hockey captain, Lucas. Laur is almost too stubborn, to her own detriment, where she vacillates between flirting and pushing Lucas away, just to protect her broken heart.

Lucas is totally bae, though. He’s my favorite kind of MMC—he’s dedicated to hockey, and only hockey, until he meets Laur. And yet, he follows her actions and lets her lead, although he makes sure she knows where he stands. I’d put a poster of him on my bedroom wall any day.

I’d consider this more of a slow burn, but the spice is worth the wait. Lastly, I loved the addition of the side characters, and I’m hoping to see some of them again!
