Queen B’s Decree: Fight starts out pretty heavy, Cal’s mentor and superintendent has just died—in a trauma-inducing way–and then Cal finds his fiancee cheating while at the funeral. I can definitely see why he turns into a fuck boy.
Years later he meets up with Scottie, new in town after escaping from what I would call a religious cult. Sparks fly immediately and Cal continues his ‘no commitment’ ways, except he can’t stop thinking about her. After spending time together at a camp fighting a wildfire, the miscommunication trope intervenes and they don’t really interact again until Mother Nature forces them to.
Scottie was a great character; she’s had such a restrictive and damaging upbringing, it’s hard to believe she acts so well-adjusted. And while there is definitely some miscommunication between the two, Cal ends up being so great with handling his emotions. He’s open about being treated by a therapist and he’s so direct in what he wants.
Angsty, steamy, suspenseful, and full of tension, Fight was a great start to the Sky Ridge Hotshots series.
