Queen B’s Decree: I am still so sucked into this series.
A Pact of Blood had was more political intrigue than I am used to in romance novels, but it totally works here. Aurelia (the twist ending at book one!) is married to the evil prince after falling in love with the three spare princes. She’s on the long con, trying to influence her new husband to be a more decent human being, ergo improving the lives of her people (constituents? countrypeople? citizens?).
I loved the magical world here, how each person sacrifices something as a trade for their magic. And Aurelia’s is sneaky; she’s a healer and makes potions, but the intent is the purpose here. It’s similar to real life medicine, sometimes you give a patient something that can harm them, for their own good.
The interactions between her and her three princes (and the fourth one she treats like a little brother) are the highlight of this story. It feels like a true found family, they all support each other and treasure the time they have together. The steamy scenes aren’t super frequent, but that makes them even more delicious.
And once again, the twist at the end SENT ME. I immediately messaged Eva Chase with an incompressible message filled with emojis like this -> 😱. How dare she do that to us? I am still reeling and I cannot WAIT for the next in the series.
