Ludik and the Runaway Mountain by John Ilho

Queen B’s Decree: This story focuses mostly on Deaf of Hard of Hearing boy, Ludik. He’s an orphan after the mountain “ran away” and destroyed his village. On his way to fight the mountain as a young boy, he’s saved and adopted by Heimee, a whisky distiller.

Heimee was my favorite character. He was snarky but you knew he was hiding a fluffy soul and a heart of gold.

I enjoyed the magical world, especially when Ludik would talk to the trees. And even though they annoyed me at times, all the characters actually acted like teenagers, so I really appreciated the realism. My only criticism was the pacing. It felt slow at the beginning and I was glad when the story became more engaging.

Overall, an interesting story with fun characters.
