Queen B’s Decree: Maybe it’s because I’m in a Twilight mood, but Other Worlds gave me some Twilight vibes—if the vampires and werewolves got along.
Luna has run away to Assisi to avoid her impending divorce, and there she has significant interactions with both Aldo, a vampire, and Victor, a werewolf. I appreciate that it’s not sunshine and daisies and both consider her a threat initially, but eventually Luna’s feelings change. There’s definitely a love triangle but it never feels like a competition.
Luna was a difficult character for me to like. She makes some questionable decisions, including ones that risk her own safety. And of note, this story takes place in 1975, but that made me overthink all the details, i.e. this camera wouldn’t have worked that way in the 1970s, or how much did a long distance phone call cost from a payphone a continent away?
Overall, I definitely enjoyed the plot and the side characters and now I want to travel to Italy.
