Queen B’s Decree: The Dark Mountain is the second in the Rise of Penumbra series, but follows new characters that we haven’t met yet. We get to meet Kadmiel, the general of the dark lord, Hosheh’s, army. So in book one we meet a fallen star who hasn’t turned dark, and in this one we get to see the “dark” or more evil side.
The first half of the story felt a little more like a journal entry of “what I did today” and I kept wishing for more action. But the storyline really picked up and towards the last half, I couldn’t put it down.
I enjoy the characters and the slight hint of romance, and I especially love that the LGBTQ relationships are treated as nothing special, just a normal part of Adama and their world.
The ending left me on the edge of my seat and I can’t wait to see how the next book goes.
