Queen B’s Decree: A book with this dark of themes really shouldn’t be so cute and adorable.
Kellen and Darby meet as children and immediately, they are both entranced with each other. Kellen is mute and scared, but Darby doesn’t judge and accepts him as he is. They spend such a short time over summer breaks, but the two seem to live for that time. Like they’ve both been waiting until they could be together again.
Kellen and Darby have some sad and painful back stories, but I love that they both still want to protect and save the other. Despite how dark some of the story was, I can’t help but focus on the adoration the two have. I can never resist the pull of a fated mate or soulmate and that’s undoubtedly how I would categorize Kellen and Darby.
Would recommend checking out the trigger/content warnings as this one has some hard trauma and abuse mentioned…but it’s undeniably worth it and I won’t stop thinking about this story for a long while.
And did I mention the male narrator on the audio had an Irish accent? I was teleported into the story and I LITERALLY couldn’t stop listening. Tell my job that all my calls are on hold, only audiobooks anymore.
