Read. Reign. Repeat.

The Price of Beauty by S.R. Jaye

Queen B’s Decree: I am a sucker for anything Beauty and the Beast-esque, so I jumped to read The Price of Beauty. Maisie, a peasant girl from the Outlands, after a series of events finds herself both the King’s intended bride while simultaneously kidnapped to a Fairy world.

I loved the world building in The Price of Beauty. The magic, the culture, the myths, the politics. Maisie gets caught up in a political play, even though all she wanted to do was help her sister. But when she’s transported to Fairy, she learns she’s so much more than a plain, peasant girl.

There’s a bit of a love triangle (even though it felt obvious who was meant to be her true love interest), and I still loved the alternate choice despite knowing he wasn’t the one. But what I really loved were the side characters. Her Brownie friend/protector, her mentors in the Fairy court, even the wardrobe had a fantastic personality! The author really gave life to so many character without it feeling overwhelming.

That cliffhanger got me, and now I’ll be patiently waiting to see it through.
