Queen B’s Decree: Demure takes place in Dublin, Ireland and I felt transported. And really, there is no better locale for a fantasy novel featuring magic and faeries and earth goddesses than Ireland.
The MMC, Aodhan (and yes, I googled how to pronounce his name) was such a red flag at the beginning. Ergo…I loved him. Stalkery, pompous, ready to be knocked down a peg? All good things. Sierra was a bit resistant to him at the beginning, but once they connect their relationship moves at a quick pace. The steam was a bit of a slow burn, but it was the perfect amount and hit just right.
One part I couldn’t help but love was that Sierra used the movie Twilight as her reasoning for why she suspected something magical happening with Aodhan. And the best part? She actually gets a piggyback ride later on so I was able to say “Hold tight, spider monkey,” so thank you Ms. Davis.
Overall, the folklore, character development, and side characters made for a very intriguing and interesting fantasy read and I can’t wait for the next. That cliffhanger got me like whooaaaa.
