Queen B’s Decree: Pride and Prejudice in a title will suck me in every time (even though this book was not remotely related to P&P’s plot—I don’t care, will still read). And a queer romance? Count. Me. In.
P&P&P was a cute and sweet time travel trope. Audrey is a high school senior in Pittsburgh in 2023 and she’s sent back in time to Regency England in 1812, where she lands on the property of 18 year-old Lucy, whom is soon to be engaged to further her father’s business pursuits.
Despite their awkward beginnings (you always seem crazy when you time travel, it’s a shame), their friendship was super adorable. Both Audrey and Lucy are likable characters that become quick friends, and it was sweet to read of their respective crushes growing.
While I knew this would be a HEA, I did have some moments of anxiety, wondering how it would play out. Their third-act breakup was a bit painful, especially knowing the truth of how women were treated in 1812—Lucy was essentially trapped.
My only criticism was Audrey seemed to have two other male love interests, and for a sapphic love story, it felt like it was unnecessary. But, in the end, both of them were super supportive of her and Lucy’s relationship and I can’t argue with that.
Thank you to Goodreads and Simon Teen for my winning copy!
