Queen B’s Decree: Song of the Wild Knight features Elly, a half-elf, half-human squire planning to compete to be a knight…yet she feels like she’ doesn’t fit in’s an outcast. Elly feels like an ugly duckling, like she’s this lumbering, hulking human, next to the dainty and graceful elves and she just doesn’t fit in.
The story starts off with some fantastical medieval setting, with Elly prepping for her knight competition. And then whoosh, it goes in a way I never expected. She meets Ceistyl, who is basically a sex fae and who shows Elly what it is to be loved and lusted. While they do have one night of physical passion, it’s more about Elly’s inner self and how she perceives herself.
I enjoyed the side characters and her relationship with the blacksmith and her knight, but the pacing was a bit slow. Regardless, Song of the Wild Knight was an interesting and enjoyable read and I hope to read more about Elly.
