Queen B’s Decree: I was a very young teenager when Princess Diana died, but I remember how much it affected the world. The Royal Game heavily takes influence from this, and I was sucked in.
There is a bit of a romance (between Jennie and Hugh), but most of the story is the mystery unfolding: the suspicious death of Henry’s mother Penelope, and the threats towards Jennie. The story slips back and forth between the past, seen through Penelope’s eyes and diary.
I found it all the royal etiquette and rules very interesting, and I was not surprised by the secrets and the infidelities amongst everyone.
Overall, The Royal Game was a quick and light mystery that gave you some insight into the royals.
