Queen B’s Decree: I think I’ve mentioned before how the few Ali Hazelwood books I’ve read are suspiciously similar, so I was interested in seeing how she went outside her box with a paranormal romance featuring an arranged marriage between a werewolf and a vampyre.
In short, it worked for me.
Bride had the humor I’ve come to expect from Ali, with the addition of a paranormal, political intrigue. The plot was fast, engaging, and had plenty of twists I never expected. I’m hoping there will be more from this world, as I’ve grown to love these characters.
Misery, our FMC vampyre, is one of my favorite Ali characters. She’s loyal, smart, strong, and has a wonderful DGAF attitude. She’s in enemy territory, now married to Lowe, the werewolf alpha. Their relationship was fun to read; watching it evolve from hesitant spouses, to friends, and to more.
I wished we got more from Lowe’s point-of-view, because it was super clear he was into her, but Misery is so used to living her life alone without any affection, she couldn’t recognize it when it happened. But once they opened up to each other emotionally, it was worth all the slow burn edging.
Loved the narration on this one, they really gave life to the characters! Thank you to PRH Audio for the free audio book.
