Don’t Want You Like a Best Friend by Emma Alban

Queen B’s Decree: I was pretty obsessed with this book.

I think what I loved so much about this book was the combination of emotions evoked in me. It was funny, and heartbreaking, and sweet, and spicy, and I just couldn’t get enough. Beth and Gwen were fully fleshed characters, and I loved their progression of friends to lovers, especially in an era when this was not socially acceptable. It just really hit me, how so many women were “forced” into marriage purely for security. It had a sense of realism that was inescapable.

The side characters were top tier as well. Gwen’s cousins Albie and Bobby were so supportive and wonderful and I am SO EXCITED to see that Bobby gets his own book.

I’m so impressed that this is a debut and I can’t wait to see what Emma Alban has next for us.
