Queen B’s Decree: I’m still on my mission to read 23 books from my TBR in 2023 and I’ve owned This Poison Heart since I started getting addicted to book boxes a few years ago. And I finally did it.
Briseis was an interesting character. She’s had to hide her “magic” for her whole life, and that has affected her ability to make and keep friends. So when she inherits a house from her birth mother, she finally feels like it’s time for her to spread her wings and make friends, trust people. Since I’m an older cynical cat lady, I knew that would be her downfall.
There was a lot of Greek mythology included and I loved how that interspersed with Briseis’s magic. The story line moved quickly and kept me interested and the relationship between Bri and her moms was the best part of the story. I think This Poison Heart was aiming for a romantic vibe between Bri and one of the characters, but I didn’t feel it; it felt forced.
Overall, I’m glad I read this but I don’t think I’ll be moving on with the series.
