Read. Reign. Repeat.

Pity Date by Whitney Dineen

Queen B’s Decree: Pity Date is by a new-to-me author and the cover sold me immediately.

But I struggled initially. Faith has just found out her boyfriend has been cheating on her, and she is really emotional about it. Maybe I’m heartless, but some of her crying jags were too much for me. I.E., seeing dragon fruit in the grocery store and crying because Mr. Ex-BF was going to take her to Costa Rica to eat fresh dragon fruit.

Her friendship with Teddy was the gold star of Pity Date. Their friendship really blossoms and throughout, Faith becomes a stronger character. And when there is a massive issue in the third act that I thought would ruin everything, Faith is a total boss babe and puts herself first.

While Pity Date is mostly a lighthearted RomCom, I thought it dealt very well with aging and death. Teddy’s grandfather Theo stole the show for me and gave me so many feels.

Overall, I enjoyed this story, even if I didn’t connect with the characters immediately.
