The Way of Us features Heath and his longterm BFF, Atzi. Heath, of course, has been in love with her for years but has never told or shown her his feelings. And frankly, both of them were so messed up from traumatic events from their respective childhoods, telling her might not have gone over well. But one little white lie causes them to proceed right into the fake dating trope and it works so well.
Until the angst, of course. But that’s typical of Claudia Burgoa’s stories. Gotta go through the pain to get to the HEA!
I struggled a bit with Heath. His plan to just move away and drop Atzi was so coldhearted, I worried he wouldn’t deserve Atzi’s love. But Claudia has a way about her, and she somehow makes it all right in the end. Thankfully it includes therapy and some grown-up communication!
