Read. Reign. Repeat.

The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai

Queen B’s Decree: The Mountains Sing was not an easy book to read, but I’m still glad I did.

It encompasses a lot of the history of Vietnam, including the war, the Great Famine, and the Land Reform. There was so much I didn’t know—so much we’re not taught in school—and knowing has definitely made me think more.

The Mountains Sing was a beautiful written story, and the alternating timelines attracts and keeps your attention. It was exceptionally emotional and brought me to tears, multiple times. Overall, it was a difficult yet fascinating read that I think all should learn from.
