Read. Reign. Repeat.

The T Room by Victoria Lilienthal

Queen B’s Decree: The T Room is described as a “raucous, entertaining, New Age erotic yarn,” but I didn’t find that to be quite accurate.

Vera is our main character and she’s working as a masseuse while simultaneously having an affair with her mentor/”work partner.” Vera doesn’t really have any qualms about being with a married man, as she only wants to “borrow” him for a short time. And yet she is constantly seeking his approval and praise.

Frankly, I found Vera to be a hot mess. I connected more with her 14 year-old daughter India, who had such a clearer head. At times, it felt like India had the maturity to be a parent, likely because her mom is a mess.

The T Room wasn’t very funny nor erotic, instead it felt more like an invitation into Vera’s head and follows her personal growth and introspection. The mind-body information was interesting (hey, I do yoga!) but it felt almost like it was used as a crutch to explain away bad character choices or personalities.

Overall, I think I would have enjoyed The T Room more had I not had the expectations of a raucous, erotic read. It was interesting and I found parts of it educational, but not what I was aiming for.
