Queen B’s Decree: Why are second chance romances so hard for me to read?!? All that lost time, usually due to a dumb misunderstanding…WASTED. Thus, I went into Shifting Gears with a bit of a chip on my shoulder. I already knew both characters from the previous books in the series so I MAYBE was judging them a teeny tiny bit.
Kelly has always been the one to leave and run, but in Shifting Gears we finally get her reasons and begin to understand her. I (obviously) cared more for Brett since he was so steadfast in his love for her and she kept throwing it away…at first.
Shifting Gears was angsty and emotional. I loved how well Kelly and Brett eventually came to communicate and how supportive all their friends were—always. The best part of this series has been getting to know this “found family” that they’ve formed.
Overall, Shifting Gears was not my favorite of the series, but I think that was definitely a “me” thing. It has good characterizations (and great side characters) with plenty of steam and emotions, so I think anyone who isn’t me will love it wholeheartedly.
