Queen B’s Decree: I’m still deep in the world of the sweet Omegaverse trope and I don’t see that ending for me anytime soon.
Always Waiting is the story of Eloise. She’s been living at what is essentially an Omega boarding school since she was a child and is their oldest resident. She’s refusing to match with a pack as she’s waiting for her childhood best friend, a Beta. When the Omega academy forces her into a trial pack match, she is thrown into the lives of Pack Russo.
Always Waiting was a bit of a whirlwind for me. The relationships between Eloise and her Pack move quickly—almost too quickly at times—yet each character felt as if they were equally present with good characterizations. The suspense and intrigue was something I hadn’t expected, but I feel that it made the story that much more enjoyable.
I loved having multiple points-of-view as it gave us a little more insight into the Pack. The spice was plentiful and well written without being over-the-top.
Always Waiting was a great debut from a new author that I’ll be following in the future!
Book: Always Waiting by Calliope Stewart
Series: The San Francisco Omegas #1
Genre: Contemporary
Hotness: medium-hot salsa
Plot Devices/Tropes: Omegaverse, m/m, forced proximity
Did you not find it to be inundated with grammatical errors and problematic character descriptions? I find the premise intriguing, but I’m having trouble getting past the grammatical and formatting errors.
I can’t disagree with you, but I suppose the promise of an interesting plot and characters was what won me over. I think I tend to be a little more lenient to debut, self-publishing authors but I will be watching for improvement in further books.
