Queen B’s Decree: Neon Gods is a modern adaptation of the Hades and Persephone myth, although the modernness feels a little weird. After devouring Neon Gods, I still don’t totally understand where Olympus is. Do people have magic? But they have instagram? Is there an airport?
Honestly, none of that really matters because Hades and Persephone are perfection. Hades is the big dark boogeyman of Lower Olympus, but that’s all a facade. He’s just a lonely, damaged, marshmallow of a deviant man. And he’s quickly obsessed and protective of Persephone.
And Persephone is an amazing Heroine too. She’s strong-willed and resilient and I love that she can own her sexuality. At first, I was worried this was going to be a BDSM nightmare, but it’s definitely BDSM-light. But the steam is 100% present, don’t worry about that.
I was enthralled with Neon Gods and I will be reading Electric Idol ASAP.
