Queen B’s Decree: Weather Girl had a definite Parent Trap vibe going on. Ari and Russell work at a TV news station in weather and sports and working with their bosses has turned into a nightmare. Torrance and Seth are ex-spouses that 100% bring their relationship problems into their work life and it’s begun to affect their subordinates. One drunken night after a work party, Ari and Russell begin to scheme and decide to get their bosses back together…romantically.
Ari and Russell were great characters but I just didn’t really believe their romantic progression. It felt a little forced to me. Like these were the characters the author wanted to create and a bond was forced between them even though there wasn’t much chemistry to be found.
While this is marketed as a Rom-Com, I didn’t find much “Com” about it. It dealt with some serious issues including Ari’s struggles with depression and her toxic positivity she relied upon. But I thought they were dealt with well and it was a great way to showcase how someone with depression can still have a positive and supportive relationship with others.
And can I add how much I loved that Russell was a fluffy man with a dad bod? It was so refreshing to see a plus-size hero that struggles with body insecurities, just like the rest of us.
Overall another great read by Rachel Lynn Solomon.
