Queen B’s Decree: Love and Other Natural Disasters started off well and featured the “fake relationship” trope, which is usually a crowd pleaser. And at the beginning, I enjoyed Nozomi’s inner monologue.
But she didn’t really progress or evolve. In fact, none of the characters had much development and the story line quickly became predictable and cliched.
I was happy to see Asian American queer representation and it was good to see some deeper subjects mentioned, like the cultural traditions and homophobia. But Nozomi’s brother ended up being my favorite character. He was supportive yet realistic.
Too much instalove, one-dimensional characters, and an annoying heroine, Love and Other Natural Disasters had some hits but more misses.
