Queen B’s Decree: The Boss starts immediately with Evie on the run from her abusive boyfriend. She stumbles upon Matteo and his people and she is given a choice of either death or marrying Matteo. Not hard to figure out what she chose.
Their relationship progression was a little weird for me. It starts with Evie feeling fear and uncertainty (because she thought he would kill her!) into some hardcore instalove. Truthfully, I had a hard time relating to the the characters. Matteo essentially forced Evie into being a homemaker and that didn’t sit well with me.
I also felt like Matteo emotionally manipulated Evie at times. Their relationship didn’t feel healthy.
On the surface, The Boss is a quick and suspenseful read. But the deeper subtext didn’t vibe with me.
