Duvet Day by Emily Kerr

Queen B’s Decree: I was drawn to Duvet Day due to a single line in the blurb:

Young lawyer Alexa Humphries’s one true love is her precious duvet

Many years ago, Queen J and I took a vacation where we first encountered what we called the “cloud bed,” and the memory of that duvet has stayed with us since.

In Duvet Day, Alexa is struggling with stress and feeling overworked as a junior lawyer, so one day she just can’t get out of bed and calls in sick. After a series of unfortunate events, she gets locked out of her house while wearing her unicorn onesie pajamas. She discovers her previously unmet housemate Sam is not a woman (as she thought) when he photographs her at a climate change protest.

What next happens is some ridiculous, over-the-top antics as she tries to get replacement keys before her other lawyer housemate can find out she was playing hooky. Duvet Day was funny and easy with a hint of romance. It was very fast paced – the entire story is over the course of a single day – but was still enjoyable and easy to read.
