Queen B’s Decree: I had a hard time with Gametime. I never grew to like either Paxton, our hero, or Naomi, our heroine. The story starts off on an icky foot when Naomi and Paxton have one sexy night together, but in the light of day they discover she thought she was sleeping with his twin, Patrick.
Gross.
Paxton and Naomi have been friends for years, yet the whole time he’s been in love with her and has listened to her talk about how much she wants his twin, Patrick. That just feels icky! And weird. And makes Paxton sounds like a NiceGuyTM, whining about friendzones while waiting in the wings to swoop in.
As you can see, that beginning was hard for me to get past. The rest of the relationship between Paxton and Naomi was very back and forth. And Patrick just turned into a worse and worse person as the book progressed.
What I did enjoy was Paxton coming into himself and developing self-confidence. The interactions he had with the assistant coach were heartwarming. And I did love seeing the twins make up and get their twin mojo back.
I’m still really looking forward to the rest of the series, and I’m hoping Gametime was an anomaly.
