Slapshot by Rebecca Jenshak

Queen B’s Decree: With a story that focuses a great deal on personal growth, Slapshot was surprisingly low on the angst factor. Kaitlin is a bit of a “poor little rich girl,” stuck at Moo U to make up for past transgressions and bad decisions. Her dad is a hockey legend, so she’s not happy to find out the best paying on-campus job is as an equipment manager for the men’s hockey team.

It’s there she meets the rookie Lex. He’s only been playing hockey since his late teen years and he’s struggling to find his place on the team. He is immediately drawn to Kaitlin and does his best to charm her and work through her defenses.

Slapshot really was a fun and easy read. Lex was a wonderfully emotionally available hero, sweet and patient. And Kaitlin is complicated with a huge chip on her shoulder, but shows great personal growth as a character.

The conflict felt a little cliched, but it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment. Flirty banter, sexual chemistry, and true emotional growth are what makes this such a great read.
