Queen B’s Decree: Sheriff’s Secret was an interesting read. You have hero #1, Jaxson: the small town sheriff who has no idea that his inner most secret of his sexuality is not really that much of a secret at all. And hero #2, Dante: big city business man, out and proud and not afraid to shake things up.
I really enjoyed the interactions between Jaxson and Dante. It started off with a little enemies-to-lovers trope, but that quickly evolved when both couldn’t resist their attraction to each other. Jaxson seriously had a martyr complex, but with parents like he had…I don’t blame him for staying in the closet. Their relationship progression was pretty fast, but their physical connection was super hot and I was sucked into their fall into love.
It’s an unfortunate thing, but Sheriff’s Secret was realistic about the dangers that LGBTQ people face. Dante and his brother were both targeted for being gay and it was a little heartbreaking how normalized it was. Those in the town that were supportive gave you back the hope you needed.
In fact, the side characters were some of the best parts of Sheriff’s Secret and I hope some of them get stories of their own. Looking forward already to the next in the series.
