Sweet Little Lies by J.D. Hollyfield

Queen B’s Decree: I was dreading this story a bit. The final chapter of Bad Daddy gave me some severe Dominant vibes and I can’t always get into that. Our premise is that sweet little Hazel wants her father’s best friend Gabriel…and the attraction is mutual. Gabriel is a bit of a sadist and likes administering pain with his pleasure. Side note here: the BDSM scene depicted in Sweet Little Lies felt a little inaccurate. No discussion of what a submissive is or does and no safe word. But honestly that doesn’t bother me as BDSM is not my favorite genre or trope, but it needs to be noted.

Happily for me, the sadism and physical pain was minimal and very soon both Hazel and Gabriel start catching feelings. Gabriel fought his feelings pretty hard leading to a lot of push and pull between the two. At some point I kept wondering what it was about Hazel that drew Gabriel to her, as she acted ridiculously immature at times.

The major conflict or event in Sweet Little Lies was eerily similar to what happened in Bad Daddy, which felt like cheating? Almost like I was reading the same book twice.

Truth here? I don’t even care. I enjoyed it and would recommend it for a quick and steamy read.
