Left For Wild by Harloe Rae

Queen B’s Decree: One of Prince Consort B and my favorite shows is Alone. It’s where these wilderness experts are left in the wild with only 10 or so items and they must survive by building shelter and finding food. It’s so interesting to watch these people deal with the harsh settings of the wild, but the hardest thing often seems to be the mental struggle that accompany the lack of human contact.

I thought often of Alone while reading Left For Wild. Even before his release from prison, Halder was already dealing with the loneliness that came with being a prisoner and then an ex-con (although wrongfully imprisoned, of course!). He’d never met Blakely before, but he has felt drawn to her since the moment he saw her working in the prison as a social worker. As hard as it may be able to believe, and even though he told himself he was living for revenge, Halder still had this optimistic and hopeful personality once he interacted with Blakely.

It was beautiful to see the two together. Blakely was such a bright light – she looked for the good in everyone and was willing to give second chances, even to an ex-con like Halder. Their relationship was sweet and heartfelt. What dropped my rating from 5 stars to 4.5 stars is that by the end I was a little over the super sweet interactions. Nearly got the dia-beet-us from the loveydovey-ness of them.

Left For Wild was refreshing with an interesting and different story line. It was unique and wonderful and Harloe Rae has cemented herself as an “always read.”
