Queen B’s Decree: I couldn’t help but feel as if Kinsley was a bit of a kindred spirit. Likes books better than people, a bit of an introvert, awkward around new people. If I hadn’t met Prince Consort B in college, I might have been the one needing matchmaking and dating lessons.
Joshua is the best friend of Kinsley’s brother Colton, and he’s been harboring a massive crush on her for quite a while. Bro code is stopping him from acting on it, so when she discusses wanting to date more, it seems like the perfect way to help him move on. By becoming her dating coach.
Alas, dear reader, you and I know what will happen from there. The more Josh tries to hide his feelings and move on, the more Kinsley starts to notice them and dig into his psyche. It actually feels like a natural progression; for some time there is only friendship, so it felt realistic watching them develop feelings for each other.
The side characters were all pretty intrinsic to the feel of the story, yet they didn’t take over. One of the things Emma Hart does best is write witty and slightly demented grandparents, and the ones featured here were the perfect mix of crazy and fun, without going over the top.
Full of introverted jokes and a slow, sweet romance, The Bookworm’s Guide to Dating was one of Emma Hart’s best yet, and was a perfect beginning to a new series.
