Queen B’s Decree: Maxx was such a grump. Y’all know I can’t resist that.
Maxx is looking for an assitant/office manager/cook and places an ad online for a “Girl Friday.” When he receives an application from what he believes is a young man named “Charly,” he offers him the job. Charly is actually short for Charlynn, who is in desperate need of a job in a new city.
Sparks fly immediately and Maxx kind of panics. It’s clear Maxx has been through the wringer emotionally, so he doesn’t trust easily. And yet, he’s so drawn to Charly, he keeps throwing her these mixed signals because he just can’t help himself.
Their chemistry was explosive, whether it was the physical connection or the emotional. They just seemed to be made for each other. Maxx is the grump and Charly is the wild one that keeps him on his toes.
Such a great contemporary by Melanie Moreland. I’d love to read more about both these two and the friends they make along the way.
