Queen B’s Decree: I felt like there was something missing in Deal with the Dragon. Romance, maybe? The world building was great – I was really able to understand the differences between the immortal races and what their world was like. And I thought the curse and magic involved was very interesting.
Our main characters are Elena and Rhys. Elena is an immortal shifter princess who is unable to shift. She’s been banished to a temple where she has been living a simple life before she is recalled home to bond/marry her betrothed, Rhys. Rhys is the king? leader? of the the dragon shifters, the last of his kind able to shift. He’s been protecting Elena’s homeland since she was born in exchange for her hand. See, he’s been cursed and it has affected the rest of his people. No other dragon shifters have been born and will not be born until this curse is broken and he’s hoping Elena is the cure.
I thought “arranged marriage? That’s a fun trope.” Except my favorite part was lacking. While magic is involved, I still felt like their relationship went from strangers to lovers really fast, with very little love or romance to be seen. It felt like their lust overpowered everything yet it was described as their bond taking over.
The suspense and action were the highlight of the story and it’s what kept me intrigued.
