Read. Reign. Repeat.

Charlie by Siobhan Davis

Queen B’s Decree: Charlie broke my heart in the previous Rydeville trilogy, and I wasn’t going to forgive him too easily. We finally meet the woman he slept with on his wedding night (and yeah I know the details of their marriage but it still bothers me) and Demi is nothing like I expected. She’s Charlie’s new PA, one that was unaware of his marriage.

I liked Demi. She was strong and stubborn. She feels stuck working for Charlie, needing the cash to pay for her father’s medical care. Side note – her father was unceremoniously let go by Charlie’s father when he had his first health issue (kind of a dick move – Charlie, Sr.). Yet when Charlie essentially bullies Demi to try to force her to quit, she sticks it out. Have to admire someone who will take shit and turn it into lemonade.

Charlie was just…meh. His rapid transition from bully to lover didn’t work for me. While I can appreciate how damaged he is, his progression didn’t feel real to me. I felt like the lust outweighed any other emotions for both of them most of the time.

I would have wished for a little more detail regarding the political Elite world, but the ending was still very satisfying regardless. Plus that epilogue gave me exactly what I needed.
