Read. Reign. Repeat.

Abi and the Boy Next Door

Queen B’s Decree: I just wanted a sweet YA where despite her weight, the heroine learns to love herself. Is that too much to ask?

Abi and the Boy Next Door didn’t really answer my craving. Starting off with some fat shaming, we learn that our heroine Abi is an overweight teenager transferring high schools in the middle of her senior year due to her parents’ abuse.

She immediately meets a boy on the bus who turns out to be her neighbor and instalove basically ensues. While Abi does start making some life changes and loses weight, it feels like she needs some therapy to be honest.

Throw in some weirdly forced angst-ridden scenes, plus some unbelievable actions, and OTT characters, and you’ve got a disappointed Queen B.
