Read. Reign. Repeat.

Anointed by Charity B.

Queen B’s Decree: Just like my creepy interest in serial killers (shout out to Joe Goldberg!), I also share a creepy interest in cults. How people get brainwashed, how they are willing to sacrifice their children to the cause; it’s all so intriguing.

Anointed is one such book. Our Hero and Heroine are Zebadiah and Laurel Ann, both children living in this polygamous cult. It’s very similar to the FDLS, in that there is a “Prophet” who speaks directly to their god, forcing young girls to be “wives” before the age of consent, and they eschew technology or anyone outside their cult.

Parts of Zeb and Laur’s story was so hard to read; so painful. The author did a great job at facing the darkness head on. Despite it’s darkness, I was addicted.  I couldn’t stop reading; I had to know how it ended.

It was so hard to like the characters. Zeb was at times brutal and uncaring, while Laur was naive and foolish. Anointed was a whirlwind of emotions that I couldn’t control. I don’t know how Charity B. did it, but I got so invested in these characters and their lives. Highly recommended.
